Paralegal and Legal Assistant (On-site)
Job Description
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Paralegal to assist in analyzing consumer complaints related to utility services. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in investigating and resolving disputes, ensuring that consumer rights are protected and regulations are upheld. This role requires strong analytical skills, effective communication, and a commitment to resolving issues efficiently.
General Duties:
- Analyze the factual bases of consumer complaints about utility services and apply relevant laws or regulations to investigate these complaints.
- Provide information and answer questions from customers, review and analyze company records, and respond to inquiries both verbally and in writing.
- Request and direct service providers and customers to provide necessary information to complete case records.
- Instruct service providers to conduct premise inspections or meter tests to assess the adequacy of service or accuracy of billing.
- Record and compile complaint and workload information and assist in the preparation of reports.
- Guide service providers to take corrective actions to resolve disputes effectively.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to develop specialized knowledge of Public Service Law and Regulations through research and training.
- Prior experience as a legal secretary, paralegal, or investigator, or experience in dispute resolution is beneficial.
- Strong skills in conducting factual investigations of customer service and consumer protection complaints.
- Excellent oral and written communication and analytical skills are required for investigating and resolving disputes. The candidate must be able to gather relevant facts, apply applicable laws and regulations, and make informed decisions on complaints.
- High attention to deadlines and detail to protect consumer interests.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience in investigating consumer protection or customer service complaints within a legal or quasi-legal setting.
- Experience in investigations related to energy, telecommunications, or water services.
- Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) systems.
- College degree (Associate's or Bachelor's) is preferred.
