Design Specialist Sr (On-site)
Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Designer to support key program initiatives within a defense-focused engineering environment. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in mechanical and electro-mechanical design, with hands-on expertise in Creo 9 and a solid understanding of military and industry design standards.
Position Description
The Senior Designer will create innovative and practical designs for components, assemblies, tools, and products of varying complexity. This role requires close collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, quality, vendors, and customers to ensure that design specifications are met and products are producible and compliant with applicable standards.
- Developing detailed mechanical and electro-mechanical designs using Creo 9
- Preparing complex design layouts, schematics, and drawing packages to military or equivalent ASME standards
- Performing tolerance analysis and applying GD&T principles
- Supporting Model Based Definition (MBD) practices (experience with MBD is a strong plus)
- Checking completed drawings and documentation for completeness, accuracy, and conformance to standards
- Ensuring models transition seamlessly to modeling and simulation tools
- Providing technical guidance and support to internal teams and external customers
- Evaluating designs for cost-effectiveness, manufacturability, and integration feasibility
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 9 years of design/drafting experience using Pro-E/Creo (must have Creo 9 experience)
- Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Strong understanding of tolerance analysis
- Expertise with 3D CAD modeling and drafting techniques
- Comprehensive knowledge of military drawings, MILSPECs, and design standards
- Experience developing drawing packages for complex systems
- Ability to assess and verify design viability and integration across subsystems
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Prior experience with BAE Systems Combat Vehicles
- Background in defense or military product environments
- Experience with Model Based Definition (MBD)
- Understanding of production processes and human factors in design
Education
- Associate degree in engineering drafting/design or equivalent training and experience
- At least 9 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 5 years in advanced design concepts
