Sr. OT Network Architect (On-site)
Job Description
Our client is seeking a Senior OT Network Architect to lead the design, implementation, and security of operational technology (OT) network environments. This role is responsible for modernizing network infrastructure, ensuring high availability, and implementing secure, segmented architectures across critical systems.
This is a highly technical role focused on OT/IT convergence, SD-WAN, and cybersecurity within industrial and utility environments.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Design
- Design and implement segmented OT network architectures transitioning from flat Layer 2 environments to zone-based, SD-WAN-enabled networks
- Define segmentation strategies aligned with ISA/IEC 62443 (zones and conduits) to protect critical assets
- Engineer resilient network topologies across sites to ensure high availability and fault tolerance
- Develop SD-WAN standards including underlay/overlay architecture, path selection, and QoS for industrial protocols
Security & Compliance
- Implement OT cybersecurity controls including micro-segmentation, firewall zoning, and least-privilege access
- Define and manage firewall policies to control inter-zone traffic
- Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments aligned with OT threat models
- Ensure compliance with NERC CIP and other regulatory frameworks
Implementation & Operations
- Lead deployment of SD-WAN solutions across OT environments
- Integrate new solutions with existing network infrastructure
- Configure high availability and redundancy (failover, spanning tree, MPLS-TP, etc.)
- Support incident response and root cause analysis for network issues
- Manage projects and provide regular status updates to leadership
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in network architecture and design, preferably in OT environments
- Strong experience with industrial protocols (Modbus, DNP3, OPC, Ethernet/IP)
- Understanding of IT/OT convergence principles
- Strong knowledge of routing, switching, and firewall configurations
- Experience with network monitoring and management tools
Technical Skills
- Experience designing and supporting LAN/WAN networks (Cisco preferred)
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret technical documentation and apply best practices
- Experience developing and implementing network security procedures
- Familiarity with SCADA and industrial control systems (ICS)
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Networking, or related field
- CCNA or CCNP certification required
- CCIE, security certifications, or experience with Extreme Networks a plus
