Legal Assistant (On-site)
Job Description
Our client is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented legal assistant to support legal operations .
- Coordinate all logistics for the DOH Direct Referral hearing process
- Work independently to manage multiple hearing cases, deadlines, and document requirements
- Operate postage meter equipment and prepare/track documents sent via certified mail
- Field incoming calls, identify the caller’s legal issue, and route them to the correct attorney or DOH program area
- Coordinate service of legal documents with internal staff and external service providers
- Process invoices for process service companies
- Maintain an organized workspace and ensure proper handling of confidential and sensitive information
- Support attorneys with document preparation, file organization, legal research, and administrative tasks
- Work efficiently under pressure and adapt quickly in a high-volume legal environment
- Understand and interpret laws, regulations, and legal documents as required
Required Skills and Experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience with the DOH Direct Referral hearing process
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Knowledge of New York State Department of Health structure, programs, and legal processes
- Prior experience in the DOH Division of Legal Affairs strongly preferred
- Proficiency with operation of a Cisco telephone system
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
- Reliable, efficient, flexible, and eager to learn
- Ability to work overtime on short notice
- Ability to work with confidential information professionally and appropriately

Pay Range: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour (Depending on experience and qualifications)
