Job Description

We are in search of a dedicated and proficient Paralegal to join our client's dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to promoting human rights, an understanding of anti-discrimination laws, and excellent communication skills. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Public and Staff Interaction:

    • Professionally engage with the public and division staff, addressing inquiries about the Division, complaint processes, rights, and specific complaints under the Human Rights Law.
    • Provide assistance to Agency Program Aides and maintain an updated knowledge of the Human Rights Law, other related laws, and the Division's current policies and procedures.
  2. Complaint Assistance:

    • Aid complainants with relevant information and complaint form completion.
    • Ensure accurate and timely data entry into case management systems, aiming for same-day entries.
    • Conduct interviews promptly and professionally.
  3. Complaint Resolution:

    • Strive to assist parties in achieving amicable complaint resolutions.
    • Adhere to procedural guidelines and promptly input conciliation data into case management systems.
    • Maintain knowledge of best mediation and negotiation practices.
  4. Investigation Conduct:

    • Organize documents, develop investigations, interact with involved parties and witnesses, and maintain case event records.
    • Review complaints and identify any issues promptly, ensuring appropriate actions are taken.
    • Produce detailed reports supporting recommended determinations.
    • Complete case investigations adhering to Division standards and annual targets.
  5. Outreach Duties:

    • Under the direction of the Regional Director, execute outreach tasks to nurture positive community relations.
    • Develop presentation and public speaking skills to offer technical assistance like training and presentations relevant to the HRL.
    • Foster relationships beneficial to the agency.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a paralegal role or similar is preferred.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish) are mandatory for one position.
  • Strong understanding of the Human Rights Law and other anti-discrimination laws.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
