Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to create high-quality illustrations for use in technical documentation for military electronic systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing illustrations, generating templates, gathering, organizing, editing, and writing project-specific technical materials to be included in technical manuals. This role may involve gathering and organizing technical information, preparing text and tools, and coordinating layout for both print and electronic publications.

  • Independently develop illustrations and engineering documentation for military electronic systems.
  • Produce professional-quality documents and materials, ensuring document configuration control is maintained.
  • Gather and organize technical information from various sources and teams.
  • Prepare technical text and tools, as well as coordinate layout for technical manuals.
  • Provide graphic and illustration expertise, interpreting engineering drawings and writing technical copy.
  • Maintain an internal documentation library and collaborate with developers to produce accurate and detailed manuals.
  • Adapt to rapidly changing requirements and contribute to an evolving environment.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to work independently and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Expertise in creating engineering documentation and technical publications.
  • Strong ability to decipher line drawings and technical schematics.
  • Proficient in using technical illustration tools such as Creo Illustrate, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and other graphic design software.
  • Skilled in writing clear, concise technical copy for engineering documentation.
  • Familiarity with maintaining document configuration control and document libraries.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Visio.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university, or 5 years of related work experience in technical documentation.
  • This position will be approximately 30 hours (+/- 10 hours) of work per week. Please note that it won't be a consistent 40-hour role. 

Skills Preferred:

  • Familiarity with GPO Style Guide.
  • Knowledge of military electronic systems and related documentation practices.

Experience Required:

  • 5 years of related work experience in creating and modifying illustrations for technical manuals or engineering documentation.
  • Proven proficiency using Creo Illustrate, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Visio.

Pay Range: $48.00 - $52.00 per hour (Depending on experience and qualifications)
