Job Description

Our client is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to join their team and create and revise complex technical documentation that supports the marketing, operation, repair, and maintenance of company products. In this role, you will ensure all documents conform to company, government standards, and language usage principles. You'll utilize state-of-the-art publishing software to produce product descriptions, functional descriptions, operating procedures, fault isolation, maintenance and repair procedures, illustrated parts breakdown (IPB), and more.

You will research and collaborate with engineering staff to create and revise documentation, analyze engineering drawings, and interpret complex technical data to make it understandable for non-engineers. Additionally, you'll evaluate illustrations and graphics and ensure compliance with customer requirements, government specifications, and engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and revise complex technical documentation for products.
  • Ensure all documentation meets company and government standards.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to research and understand systems and equipment.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and technical data for documentation.
  • Evaluate and request new or updated illustrations/graphics for documents.
  • Estimate project time and costs; interface with customers as needed.
  • Participate in technical reviews and validation efforts for writing assignments.
  • Contribute to the overall design and format of technical documentation.
  • Lead small or portions of large technical writing assignments.
  • Participate in unit/system testing on Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs).
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices.

Skills Required:

  • Working knowledge of hydraulics, mechanics, electronics, and system operations.
  • Experience with state-of-the-art publication software and IETM functionality.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex engineering designs, drawings, and terminology.
  • Proficiency with XML Authoring Tools (e.g., Arbortext Epic Editor, Oxygen software).
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Tools/Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Access is a plus).
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat Professional for illustration markups.
  • Mechanical/Electrical/Operator Tech Writer experience, preferred in the defense industry.
  • Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) is a plus.
  • Strong customer service and customer interaction skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse teams across multiple locations.
  • Knowledge of interactive electronic technical manual functionality and markup languages.
  • Familiarity with military and commercial standards is preferred.

Experience Required:

  • Defense Industry experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years of relevant technical writing experience.

 

Pay Range: $50.00 - $53.00 per hour (Depending on experience and qualifications)
